Drive Switzerland with Confidence
Get your motorway vignette in minutes—avoid fines and enjoy every alpine mile.

Who We Are
Founded in 2014 beside Lake Geneva, International Driving Help has grown from a small bilingual desk to Switzerland’s most trusted motorway advisory service for foreign drivers. Our multilingual consultants are former customs officers, rental-car managers, and road-safety engineers who know the regulations inside out.
We have personally assisted over 150 000 travellers—families heading to Zermatt, bikers descending the Furka Pass, and van-lifers chasing Montreux sunsets—so you can focus on the scenery, not the paperwork.
How It Works
Check Vehicle Requirements
Vehicles under 3.5 t—including trailers—qualify for the standard vignette. Heavier vehicles pay a kilometer-based tax.
Purchase Vignette
Buy at the border, online portals, or Swiss gas stations. We list outlets that accept card, cash, or Apple Pay.
Apply Correctly
Stick it on the inside of your windshield—top-centre or driver’s side—on clean glass only.
Keep Proof
Snap a photo of your receipt. Swiss customs will replace a sticker for free if your screen cracks.
Drive Stress-Free
With a valid vignette, every Swiss autobahn—including the Gotthard Tunnel—is yours to explore.
Vignette Types & Prices
Type | Validity | Price (CHF) | Where to Buy |
---|---|---|---|
Annual Sticker | 1 Dec-31 Jan | 40 | Border, Post Offices, Gas Stations |
e-Vignette | Same as sticker | 40 | Federal Customs Portal |
Digital e-Vignette is linked to your number plate—no sticky residue after ski season.

Application Guide
For Cars & Vans
- Clean the glass with an alcohol wipe—dry completely.
- Place the sticker behind the rear-view mirror or to the left of it.
- Avoid tinted bands and heater wires for crystal-clear scan-ability.

For Motorbikes
- Choose a permanent part like the fork tube or swingarm.
- Clean with alcohol, let dry, and press firmly for 30 s.
- Avoid detachable fairings—the sticker must stay with the bike.

Stay Compliant—Avoid Heavy Fines
Swiss customs officers are thorough: hidden cameras near every border record plates and trigger on-the-spot checks. Missing or damaged vignettes lead to costly penalties—money better spent on fondue!
CHF 200 fine for no or poorly placed vignette.
CHF 100 fine for tampered sticker.
Legal basis: Swiss Federal Customs Act, Art. 10 & 14.
Most Common Mistakes
- Sticking on the tinted sun-strip.
- Using tape or extra glue—voids validity.
- Peeling off to reuse on another vehicle.
Swiss Motorway Coverage Map
Explore the roads your vignette unlocks. Scenic corridors like A2 through the Gotthard Tunnel and A9 along Lake Geneva are fully covered—no extra toll gates.

Drive Green in Switzerland
Every vignette franc fuels eco-projects: wildlife overpasses in Graubünden, silent asphalt around Zurich, and solar-powered service stations country-wide.
EV travellers rejoice—rapid chargers line the autobahn every 60 km, while car-sharing parking is free in 22 cantons.

Expert Tips
Best time to cross Gotthard Tunnel?
Hit the tunnel before 08:00 or after 20:00 on weekends. Weekday mornings are blissfully quiet outside school holidays.
Can I share a vignette?
No. Each sticker or e-Vignette is bound to one vehicle. Customs scan your plate at multiple checkpoints.
Renting a car?
Ask the rental desk for confirmation. Swiss-registered cars almost always include a valid vignette, but cross-border hires may not.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the vignette mandatory for electric cars?
Yes. Fuel type does not matter—if your vehicle is under 3.5 t, you need a vignette.
Do trailers need an extra vignette?
Absolutely. Each towed unit requires its own vignette or e-registration.
Can I buy the vignette at night?
Yes—24/7 kiosks are installed at the main crossings like Chiasso, Basel, and St. Margrethen.
